Don't Look Down...

As a child growing up my family didn't really discuss social activism and it wasn't something that I experienced in school. I was always told that I could do or be whatever I set my mind too and I think that has really helped me take the first step in becoming involved in my community. My dad would tell me that if I wanted to be the first female president that I could. He instilled in me the idea that just because I am one person I can still do great things. It was still difficult to take the first step into volunteering because I was doing it all alone. But as they say if you are afraid of heights...just don't look down. Take that first step and conquer that fear of the unknown.

As for the abilities I feel I can contribute I feel that I am a very good listener. I don't mind lending an ear to someone who needs someone to talk to. I also feel that my unwavering dedication to a cause will allow me to press on even when things are tough. As we have discussed, you may not get the outcome you desire at first but if you keep on trying change is inevitable.

It is good that you made that step, some people are forever crippled by their fear and self-doubt.

Sharon, you have made the step to get involved in SLC, PTK and SLICE. A lot of letters... but that is crucial to defining who you are and what you believe in.
